Singapore boasts of having one of the best entrepreneurial landscapes in the international community. It has been named as Asia’s greenest city by Siemens Index, and garnered the highest rank on Ease of Doing Business for 5 consecutive years. Despite the launching of her two integrated casino resorts last year, Singapore’s crime rates are lowered.

The tourism industry too is prolific with this year’s highest revenues and number of visitors on the January, February, and March on a monthly and quarterly basis.

Singapore’s lifestyle is highly comparable to the Western’s many foreign nationals come to Singapore to marvel, relax, and do business. If you have a permanent resident status, it shall open you more exclusive opportunities in Singapore.

“There are five schemes of becoming a permanent resident in Singapore,” shares Asiabiz, citing schemes such as the Foreign Artistic Talent, Professionals, Technical Personnel & Skilled Workers [PTS]; Investment Programs, Financial Investor, and Landed Personnel.

“The easiest and the most popular is the PTS scheme as this refers to foreign nationals holding the work visas, particularly, the Employment pass, Entrepreneur pass, and S pass,” says Asiabiz, “the immigration authorities take into account the work visa holder’s age, current vocation, company reputation, skills, educational background, and monthly salary.”

The Foreign Artistic Talent scheme is for foreign individuals with exceptional talents in the fields of fine arts, photography, dance music, theatre, literature, and film.

“To qualify, these artists should have established a reputation both in their home country and abroad,” chimes Asiabiz.

Moving on, in the Investment Programs, the Global Investor is the popular. It requires foreign investors to invest at least S$1 million in a new business start up or expansion of a business, or S$1.5 million in a program geared towards the economic development.

“Or they could invest S$2 million in a property and specialized venture capital fund, foundation, or a trust focusing on economic development,” Asiabiz adds, “Included in the qualifications are the investor’s entrepreneurial background and a business proposal or investment plan.

Meanwhile, in a Financial Investor scheme, the applicant shall have two options in investment.

Says Asiabiz: “They can invest a minimum amount of S$5 million of assets in a financial institution governed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
