Los Angeles, Calif., Oct. 22 – Based on a true story, “The Way Home” follows the frantic search by an entire community when a 2-year-old boy suddenly goes missing. On Oct. 26, Lionsgate will release the inspiring and uplifting family film to DVD, Digital Download and On-Demand for the first time ever.
“The Way Home” stars Dean Cain (TV’s “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman”) and Lori Beth Edgeman (TV’s “Army Wives”). The touching family drama has earned the Dove “Family Approved” Seal, and garnered the Pearl Award at the 2010 International Family Film Festival.
Cain stars as Randy Simpkins, a husband and father torn between the demands of his job and commitment to his family. Asked by his wife Christal to watch their 2-year-old son Joe for a few minutes, Randy is distracted by work and the unthinkable happens…Joe disappears. Racked by guilt, Randy joins Christal in a desperate search for their missing son alongside hundreds of others from their church and community.
Randy and Christal’s strained marriage must now weather the ultimate test – the potential loss of a child. Written and directed by Lance Dreesen, “The Way Home” is the story of Randy's powerful spiritual journey back to love, faith and a Godly understanding of what must always take first priority in a man's life – his family.
Dreesen, a convert to Catholicism and a father of two, thinks “The Way Home” speaks to what many go through. “I have struggled with finding the right balance of career vs. faith, family and giving back to the community. In the end the most important things in life are faith, family and community.”
“The Way Home” DVD includes two featurettes – including one with Randy and Christal Simpkins telling the story of Joe’s disappearance in their own words, and how it changed their lives. The DVD also includes an audio commentary with writer/director Lance Dreesen and Randy Simpkins.
