EAGAN AND MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA - As the season of giving kicks off, Dr. Jennifer Eisenhuth, an Eagan and Minneapolis orthodontist, is motivating her patients to make the season better for underprivileged children.

New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off in the office and will be donated to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program through Dec. 19. Patients will be rewarded for their kindness and generosity; tokens redeemable for great prizes will be given to each patient who donates a toy.

"This office has a history of taking part in many community-related causes, and Toys for Tots is one way to encourage patients to also get involved," said Eisenhuth, whose orthodontic services include adult braces and children's braces.

Eisenhuth says her patients have exhibited a generous spirit in the five years the dental office has participated in the program. In 2010, local Marines made three trips to the office because of the abundance of donated toys.

"Our patients are taking part in making the holidays better for a child in need," Eisenhuth said. "They realize times are difficult for some people and genuinely want to help. It would warm anyone's heart to see their kindness in action."

USMCR Maj. Bill Hendricks and a group of Los Angeles Marine Reservists started Toys for Tots in 1947 and collected and distributed 5,000 new and refurbished toys to needy children. Only new toys have been accepted since the holiday season of 1980.
Toys for Tots' overall goal is to give a message of hope to underprivileged children in hope that it moves them to grow up to be "responsible, productive, patriotic citizens," according to the organization's website.
