Holy Father to celebrate Mass beneath ‘Cristo Rey’ statue
honoring the martyrs of the Cristero War featured in epic new film

ATLANTA – March 16, 2012 – During his trip to Mexico and Cuba, Pope Benedict XVI will celebrate Mass March 25 for more than 400,000 in the shadow of the Cristo Rey statue, erected to honor the martyrs of the Cristero War featured in the epic new film FOR GREATER GLORY, which premiers June 1 in theaters across the U.S.

WHERE: The Pope will celebrate Mass in Bicentennial Park – at the foot of Cerro del Cubilete (Beaker Hill), atop which is the statue of Cristo Rey (Christ the King), a tribute to the martyrs of the Cristero War. Mass begins at 10 a.m. local time (Noon EDT).

ABOUT FOR FOR GREATER GLORY: What price would you pay for freedom? In FOR GREATER GLORY (formerly titled CRISTIADA), an impassioned group of men and women each make the decision to risk it all for family, faith and the very future of their country. Academy Award® nominee Andy Garcia and Golden Globe winner Eva Longoria lead an international cast that also includes Peter O’Toole (Academy Award® nominee and Oscar® Lifetime Achievement Honoree) and Eduardo Verástegui (BELLA).

ABOUT THE CRISTERO WAR: FOR GREATER GLORY documents Mexico’s Cristero War (1926-29) – a grassroots rebellion against the administration of Plucarto Elias Calles, who sought to restrict – if not eliminate – Catholicism from the country. More than a dozen of those martyred during the Cristero War have been beatified, including Blessed José Sanchez de Rio, who died at age 14.

COVERAGE: FOR GREATER GLORY brings the Cristero War to life on the big screen just nine weeks after the Pope’s visit. Your readers/listeners/viewers can see the official trailer on the film’s website at www.ForGreaterGlory.com.
