Singapore Employment Pass Application Approval Considerations Discussed By Asiabizservices

An EP application is not approved as a matter of course but is subject to review and approval by authorities. Therefore you should not make any relocation plans until you have received an In-Principle-Approval of your application.

Singapore strengthens its position as a global entrepreneurial and talent hub in Asia Pacific,. Such is evident in the business policies implemented: 100% foreign ownership and management. This means to say that foreign companies can relocate their own staff to Singapore or hire employees from foreign territory.

To have a labor pass to enter Singapore to work and live are required for employees from other countries. Only companies successfully registered with ACRA can apply for the labor passes channeled through an immigration specialist or business process outsourcer.

Asiabiz Services has been founded in 1998 to specialize in business solutions particularly to foreign investors and companies. It also indexes labor passes as among its expertise.

“The Singapore Employment pass is one of the two principal labor passes issued by the Ministry of Manpower to foreign professionals seeking for employment or business opportunities in Singapore,” says its business consultant.

Unlike the other premier labor pass, the Employment pass is exclusive to individuals who have completed a Bachelor’s degree from a reputable university. Thus, the Certificate of course completion along with Transcript of Records from the school registrar is among the documents needed during application.

Besides this, other documents must be presented to show proof of meeting the qualifications defined by the Ministry. This includes the salary earned previously and the amount offered in Singapore, professional or specialist’s skills, and relevant work experience.

Asiabiz continues: “Although there is no minimum wage imposed in Singapore, the lowest salary offered by companies is S$2,500 for a Q1 type of Employment pass. P2 pass, which is the second type, is deserved by receiving S$3,500 salary offer from the employing company. The last type of Employment pass is P1, and such is issued to individuals whose monthly earning is S$7,000 and up.”

There are other factors that the Ministry of Manpower evaluates to determine an application’s approval.

“The applicant’s current citizenship, reputation of the employing company and its paid up capital, roles and responsibility of the applicant, and his age are also significant factors,” chimes Asiabiz.

Asiabiz adds: “Having graduated from a Bachelor’s degree does not necessarily mean that the application is approved. The applicant must complement it with relevant working experience or professional skills.”

Upon approval, the applicant shall receive an e-mail enclosing an In-Principle Approval notification from the Ministry.

“The notification is printed and presented before the Work Division Pass of the Ministry of Manpower, along with other requirements,” utters Asiabiz.
